Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex

Last week I received the Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex epilator to try and review. I used it this week and here are my thoughts on it:

This epilator is quite versatile as it has 3 interchangeable heads - you can switch between the epilating, shaving and exfoliating heads; and as it is rechargeable you can use it in the shower so it's good for using with your favourite shower product to exfoliate and cleanse the skin.

The good thing about being rechargeable is that you don't have to be using it near a mains plug and you can travel with it (it even has a travel lock) but on the down side it is a bit bigger and heavier than the corded one I have tried before (Philips Satinelle Soft).

The fact that you can also shave with it means if hair is "too long" to epilate, you can trim it down, and the heads (with the exception of the brush one) come with a cap that you can swap according to the area you are using it on: there is a facial, skin contact and massage roller cap for the epilator head, and a wide comb cap for the shaving one.

The Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex has a fully flexible head for "effortless incredibly smooth skin", and a feature that lets you know when you are using too much pressure by using a red warning light. However this attribute is best used with the massage roller cap, which I found too sharp and uncomfortable so can't comment on that characteristic.

I found that the facial cap was too bulky and can't even truly reach the hairs if you are using it, and the skin contact one is too open, to the point where I actually injured the skin on my underarm as I maneuvered the epilator and held it at different angles, all because of the wideness of the head (which I found too big) and the openness of the skin contact cap, which exposes half of the rotating head and allows it to have unnecessary contact with the skin sometimes, which caused me to graze it.

Another interesting property of the Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex is that it has a built in light, which can be handy if using in the evening or in a poorly lit room. A couple more things about it: the charge lasts up to 50 minutes (good) within 24 hours of charging (not so good) and it comes with a handy pink zippered pouch with 3 interior compartments to keep the epilator and attachments in.

Being a seasoned epilator user (my trusty Philips one I've had for over 7 years! Hopefully saying this won't jinx it) I didn't think I'd experience much pain when using this Braun one, however (injury aside) it did leave the skin on my legs feeling a bit sore.

All in all, it has some versatile and useful features but the design is just not delicate enough in terms of weight, epilating head size and corresponding caps, at least for a petite woman like me, so I  think I'll stick to my trusty Philips Satinelle Soft for as long as I can - it's basic but it's smaller, lighter and it does the job. However if you are used to or are looking a larger epilating head, portability and the versatility of use then you might like to give the Braun Silk Epil 9 Flex a try.
